In lower temperatures the roads can be covered in black ice, which can be easily missed when driving. It’s an important time to give your vehicles a careful look over in preparation for winter driving. In order to reduce potential risks and keep safe when driving, the following pointers are recommended

VEHICLE CHECKS

Before it gets chilly give the vehicle a look over checking the following,

  • Tyre Tread: Vital for grip. Sliding is great for ice rinks, not roundabouts.
  • Brakes: If winter is the test, your brakes need top marks.
  • Coolant & Screen Wash full: Frozen engines and smeary windscreens are never the goal. Our All Weather Screenwash is up to -15c, we can supply 5ltrs to 25ltrs for your company vehicles
  • Clean the Lights: Make sure you are visible as it protects you as the driver and others. See and be seen, winter is not the season for hiding.
  • Battery: Cold weather drains weak batteries quickly.
  • Wiper Blades: Streaky wipers are basically frosted glass in disguise.

SLOW DOWN – Driving slower gives you more time to react to potential hazards. Increased reaction time reduces risk

BRAKE EARLY – Stopping distances increase significantly in wet, icy, or snowy conditions. Braking earlier can reduce the risk of skidding or colliding.

GEARS – Select a high a gear as possible to assist traction and if the car has an automatic gear box you should consider using a ‘hold’ gear
